2011 Annual Conference

March 21 - 23, 2011 Detroit, Michigan

The Funders’ Network is excited to convene our 12th annual conference in Detroit, Michigan. The challenges and opportunities the Detroit area faces as it transforms adversity into prosperity provide an exceptional setting for our 2011 conference. The Motor City was once the engine of the nation’s middle class and a shining symbol of American prosperity and ingenuity. Relying on the support of a well-resourced philanthropic community, Detroit is poised to reclaim its status, emerging as a hardworking, diverse and innovative metropolis. The city’s public, private, and non-profit partners are working together like never before to eliminate blight, attract growth, and restore economic and environmental vitality, taking Detroit in a bold new direction. In response to a looming economic crisis, Detroit-area foundations have re-thought their roles, missions, and local priorities to effectively triage the city. National and local funders are pooling resources to finance vulnerable social programs and are investing in transit infrastructure projects, job creation initiatives, locally-integrated food systems and other large-scale community endeavors. Detroit is an ideal platform for conference attendees to explore new approaches that tackle the most difficult and complex economic, environmental, and social concerns. Join us in Detroit as we share promising practices and expand opportunities around government partnerships, capacity building, and funder collaboration. The conference will offer a mixture of networking and active learning opportunities in a setting that fosters in-depth dialogue about the most cutting-edge smart growth issues. Expect dynamic keynote presenters, thought-inspiring breakouts, local food receptions featuring regional culinary specialties, and mobile workshops that reveal Detroit’s true character.
