Older Industrial Cities and The Next Economy

This October, the Funders’ Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities (www.fundersnetwork.org) will sponsor a one day meeting on October 13th for funders interested in Restoring Prosperity in Older Industrial Cities. The meeting will be held in Cleveland, Ohio in tandem with the Reclaiming Vacant Properties Conference 2010 (www.reclaimingvacantproperties.org). It will provide a forum for funders to share best practices, tools and strategies based on their experiences catalyzing long-term, sustainable revitalization in older cities and metros. The meeting will bring together the Network’s Restoring Prosperity in Older Industrial Cities (OIC) Working Group and other interested funders. It will speak to a wide range of funder interests in the areas of affordable housing, workforce development, neighborhood revitalization, climate and energy, land use and transportation, providing both learning opportunities and time for strategy discussion. The agenda is being planned to advance three Restoring Prosperity working group priorities: to support peer-to-peer learning, facilitate funder leadership, and support collective action.
